Founded in Marion Country by Ann Burnett and her husband Don Bovell, M.D., an emergency medicine physician, FreeD.O.M. Clinic USA aims to meet the dental needs of disadvantaged members of society for free. Collaborating with local private practitioners and faculty members from the UF College of Dentistry, among others, the oral health care team has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of dental treatment at specifically arranged free clinic days.
This valuable dental care has made a significant difference to patients’ lives, granting them much-needed relief from painful conditions. The services provided by the mobile clinic do not stop at dental care, also encompassing medical and optical care for the residents of Marion County.

Patients Qualifying for FreeD.O.M. Clinic USA
FreeD.O.M. Clinic USA was created by United Hands, Inc. in an effort to address the dental needs of uninsured and underinsured patients. Bringing over 25 years of valuable experience to patients in need, thousands of experienced volunteers – including third-year dental student Alec Simonson, who enjoys volunteering to provide free dental care to underprivileged communities in his home state of Florida – have given their time and expertise to those without the funds to access urgent dental care.
Patients can access this care by making an appointment but should be aware that due to high demand for these services there is usually a lengthy waiting period. For patients requiring extensive dental work, it may be necessary to arrange more than one visit.
The clinic is also able to provide care to uninsured children on a case-by-case basis, although children are typically covered by Medicaid insurance and should be receiving regular dental checkups.
The Services Provided by the FreeD.O.M. Clinic USA
The services provided by the clinic are extensive, including X-rays, cleaning, fillings and extractions. The removal of wisdom teeth is an option but requires approval by the on-site dental practitioner.
The embedded PDF discusses the circumstances in which wisdom teeth may need to be removed.
Free optical care is available for patients in need of glasses, with reading glasses available immediately and prescription glasses arriving in about six weeks. Patients can also take advantage of screening for optical conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts.
For uninsured patients seeking medical treatment, physical exams and general consultations are available, as well as a limited number of prescriptions, assistance in chronic disease prevention, and treatment for infectious diseases.
Furthermore, the clinic aims to improve the overall health of its patients with all-round healthcare, providing information on fitness and nutrition. Patients can also receive invaluable diabetes and hypertension counselling. To safeguard oral health for the future, education on hygiene is crucial to avoid further dental issues.
